What is a Room Parent? 

A room parent is a volunteer who helps out in their child's homeroom class to support the teacher. Room parents help with classroom events and support any other projects that the teacher might request help with! Room parents get the unique opportunity to play an active role in their child/children's school year! We are all busier than ever these days, which is why it's ideal for each class to have Co-Room Parents to divide responsibilities.

Duties of a Room Parent:

• Helping execute 3 class celebrations (Winter Carnival, Friendship Party, and End of Year Luau)
• Recruit volunteers for classroom needs and projects (decorating, cutting, sorting, etc.)
• Communicate with classroom teacher monthly to establish any class needs or wants.
• Provide information and reminders about McSpedden activities/events (pre-drafted emails will be sent for you to forward to your class parents)
• Is an active member of the PTA.

What is a Grade Lead Room Parent? 

A Grade Lead is a volunteer who in addition to being a room parent for a specific classroom is also the lead room parent of the other room parents for that grade level. Grade Leads help ensure all classrooms for the grade level are getting information out to their individual classes. They make sure tasks are split up among all the classrooms and every teacher is getting communication from their room parents.

Duties of a Grade Lead Room Parent:

• Be a part of the planning process for class parties (Winter Carnival, Friendship Party, and End of Year Luau)
• Recruit volunteers for classroom parties and grade-level needs
• Check with the Grade Level Teacher Lead to understand grade-level needs/wants each month
• Communicate with other grade-level room parents to confirm information is being sent to each class.
• Is an active member of the PTA.
